EXPERIENCE
Mahaffey was actively involved in Hurricanes Gustav and Ike
during the 2008 season, providing turnkey base camps, food
and water services, etc.
After Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit the
U.S. Gulf Coast, much of the infrastructure was
not operational. Without motels or other housing facilities,
emergency response personnel were hampered in the ability to
work effectively. While hurricane winds were still blowing,
Mahaffey was activated to establish a series of man-camps
along the Gulf Coast. Within 24 hours, a Mahaffey convoy
headed south through the storm ravaged roads. Mahaffey crews
travel fully self-sufficient - with enough fuel, water,
food, and shelter to live and work comfortably for seven days
without re-supply.
Our client was a division of the Southern
Company, a utility that serves the region. Within 48 hours
of arrival, Mahaffey completed the first 500 man camp -
including temporary shelter structures with floors, sleep
cots, air conditioning, lighting, power distribution,
generator power, complete dining facilities, and portable
showers. In another 48 hours, two additional camps were
established for 500 men each. After three weeks, the tree
trimmers and utility linemen completed their reconstruction
work - and FEMA personnel immediately moved into the
structures to continue their work.
